This is a reality on the 60 acres of tropical wilderness that is Luna Lodge, Lana Wedmore's personal dream come true. Over 30 acres of the lodge's property is primary virgin rainforest. You can spot literally hundreds of rare and beautiful bird species such as the scarlet macaw, red-legged honeycreeper, and slaty-tailed trogon. You will also likely encounter exotic creatures, such as coatis, tayras, and the four species of monkeys found in Costa Rica. There are five year-round waterfalls on the property itself, one with a swift flowing chute and refreshing wading pool less than a ten minute walk from the bungalows. Just a few minutes further down the river valley, among a riverbed full of brilliant white boulders, a much higher set of falls thunders down from over 40 feet; you can stand under the spray and look down at how nature is realigning and reharmonizing the river's elements.

Set in a private nature reserve spread over 1,000 acres of Central America's last remaining lowland tropical rainforest in Costa Rica, Lapa Rios Ecolodge overlooks the pristine point where the Golfo Dulce meets the wild Pacific Ocean, making it the destination that matches every one's idea of paradise.

Near the Panamanian border on Costa Rica's southern Pacific coastal range (8° 47' N, 82° 57' W). A mid- elevation site, the Station's borders extend through an elevational range of 1,120 to 1,385 meters and encompass 235 hectares of premontane rain forest.

This Station is home to the Wilson Botanical Garden featuring beautifully diverse plantings of tropical and subtropical ornamentals, representatives of unusual plant families and rare and endangered plants from Costa Rica and elsewhere. Particularly well represented are ferns, aroids, bromeliads, gingers, heliconias, marantas, and palms. More than 1,000 genera in 212 plants families can be seen along trails that wind around palm-covered hillsides, through agave and lily beds, under rain forest canopy, through banana and heliconia groves, or to strategic overlooks on the rolling grounds.

Only 5 kilometers apart from the Interamerican Highway and a 30-minute taxi ride from Golfito airport, the lodge welcomes all kinds of nature lovers,whether ecotourists looking for a jungle adventure off the beaten track, birdwatchers, natural history groups interested in studying the rich biodiversity of a tropical rainforest, or educational groups participating in field courses

Each of the ten cozy rooms has a private bath, hot water shower, tiled floor and ceiling fan. While relaxing on the shady veranda, guests can enjoy a close-up view of the forest. The array of exotic birds, including parrots and toucans, is stunning (over 200 species have been counted).
