Arenal Volcano And Tabacon Resort

Enjoy an exciting trip to Arenal Volcano! Prepare yourself to experience the power of nature at its fullest splendor visiting the most active volcano in our country.

We begin this trip by getting a view of coffee plantations and sugarcane fields scattered along the road. As we proceed our way to Arenal, we will enter the hospitable town of La Fortuna. Here you will have a first full glance of the magnificent Arenal volcano.

As we make our way to a lookout point, you will marvel at the sight of the volcano slopes that are covered with lush vegetation. You could have the exceptional opportunity of watching an almost perfect cone and feel its constant rumbling and trembling. Observe how incandescent rocks are ejected high up into the air and listen to the frequent underground rumblings.

We will visit a first class resort, the Tabacon Resort, where you will enjoy the hot mineral springs that comes out from the volcano. Tabacon will be an unforgettable experience!

Carara Biological Reserve (Full day)

Located in a transitional zone from the dry northern Pacific to the humid southern Pacific coast, Carara is home to an amazing diversity of plants and animals. This hot, humid region of marshes, mangrove swamps and rivers, shelters many different reptiles (Carara is an Indian word for "Place of the Crocodiles"), mammals and birds. You may even get to see the endangered beautiful Scarlet Macaw, which uses Carara as its nesting sanctuary.

City Tour (Half Day AM or PM)

Some highlights include the La Sabana Metropolitan Park, our former airport, considered the lungs of San Jose; the majestic National Theater, pride of Costa Ricans, completed in 1897; and the National Museum, housed in the former Bellavista Fortress. Learn our culture and history as you travel with us through space and time.

Grecia & Sarchí ( Oxcart Factory )

This tour begins with a wonderful drive through some of the largest coffee and sugar cane plantations of Costa Rica. Arriving first at Grecia, we will see the famous metal church, that has a rare and beautiful architecture. Next, we will tour the fascinating craftsman factories of Sarchí; where they build the famous oxcarts of Costa Rica. Splendidly decorated and in various sizes, these oxcarts are treasured worldwide for their unique beauty. You will not want to leave Costa Rica without one!

Irazú Volcano, Lankester Gardens and Orosi (Full day)

Known by local Indians as the "mountain of rumbling and trembling" Irazu, the highest peak in the Central Volcanic Range and the largest volcano in Costa Rica, soars 11,260 feet above sea level. On the climb up, the vegetation swiftly changes from farms to primary and white oak secondary forests, to the bleak tableland at the summit-an astonishing moon-like landscape!
On your way down, we drive through our former capital, Cartago, where we stop at the magnificent Basilica de los Angeles, our most important church.

We then go to Lankester Gardens, a showcase of diverse local flora habitats. The large orchid collection, in particular, is guaranteed to enchant flower lovers.

Our last stop is the historical town of Orosi, surrounded by mountains covered in coffee plantations and watered by the impressive Reventazon River. Here you can walk into the 250-year-old church which housed the first colonial Franciscan monks and feel the way the first Spanish inhabitants did.

Poas Volcano & Sarchi Town (Full Day)

This tour takes you from Alajuela, the birthplace of our national hero, Juan Santamaria, to the top of Poas Volcano, in a steady climb through spectacular landscapes. At the 8800-ft. summit, you’ll be able to walk through a cloud forest teeming with native plant species and enjoy the breathtaking scenery at the main crater, considered one of the largest in the world.

After lunch, we continue on to Sarchi, a colorful town famous for its original, creative woodwork carefully crafted by Costa Rica’s finest artisans. Visit the artists and their wares, and watch them hand-paint the famous wooden oxcarts, symbol of Costa Rica.

Poas Volcano And La Paz Waterfall Gardens

KThis tour is a complete package that allows you to see what we feel is the true essence of Costa Rica. Our first stop is breakfast at a local café where you will enjoy an authentic Costa Rican style breakfast. We will then take you to a third-generation coffee plantation and show you how coffee is picked, milled, ground, and roasted. Once you’ve found out first hand, or cup, why Costa Rica is known for its coffee, it’s off to the Poás Volcano. This crater volcano is one of the four active volcanoes in Costa Rica. The crystal blue sulfur pools will amaze you along with the steam rising from the various volcanic vents. But, that’s not all: our last stop is La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Your personal tour guide will take you through the butterfly observatory, the hummingbird garden and the waterfall trails. After your hike you will enjoy our Costa Rican buffet lunch.

Rafting at Pacuare River Level IV

This river has been officially declared a Wild and Scenic River, and offers some of the finest white water in Latin America, winding deep inside of one of Costa Rica's most impressive primordial rainforests. You will traverse 18 miles of remote and scenic waters that course through a wilderness of dense vegetation covering the sides of steep gorges that rise above the riverbanks. The thick undergrowth provides shelter for jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths, and numerous other species of animals and birds.

Rafting at Reventazon River Level III/IV

At our Operations Center you will have breakfast, there are bathrooms, changing rooms and an area to buy last minute needs. After your safety orientation, the first rapid of the day will set the pace for more to come. As your raft rounds each new bend in this dam-controlled river, you'll be greeted with yet another breathtaking view of the Reventazón Valley. Look for toucans, kingfishers, herons, tanagers, iguanas and bright green "Jesus Christ" lizards.
After a fun and exhilarating day of big waves, hydraulics and stunning scenery, you'll finish your trip with a stop at our Operations Center for a delicious hot lunch, showers, optional drinks and souvenir store before the return drive to San José. This one-day adventure is unforgettable!

Rafting at Sarapiqui River Level II

Flowing freely from two Costa Rican volcanic national parks and running alongside primary rainforest, the Sarapiquí is one of the most pristine and cleanest rivers in

Costa Rica. An excellent choice for beginners to experts, this river offers 3 different sections from easy class I-II, intermediate class III, and a technical, steep class IV-V.

Rain Forest Aerial Tram

The rainforests of Costa Rica possess some of the finest treetop communities in the world and are home to more than half of the plant and bird species found in the entire continent of North America. The Aerial Tram, being the best way to currently access the Rain Forest canopy, promises to become a center for exploration and research of the canopy. All visitors will be able to see life as it develops in the canopy for the first time, while experts will discover new things about the canopy's natural history.

At Arenal Volcano National Park, you will feel a change in temperature and the lush vegetation becomes apparent, preparing us for the pleasures of the exuberant cloud forest of the Poás Volcano. The Original Canopy Tour

THE Original CANOPY TOUR ® is located in a primary jungle area of the tropical rainforest and is about a 10 - 15 minute hike from the tourist centre. The tour starts on a hill top where the first platform (or diving board as we call it) is located. From there you traverse to the second and third platforms in an Espavel tree, which is a member of the cashew family. You will rappel or be belayed (a term for a professional lowering technique) down to the third platform where the journey will continue to the other platforms. The Canopy Tour follows a small stream and wildlife sightings are very common in this area. Often we can see white-faced capuchin and howler monkeys from the platforms. There are also many varieties of birds in this zone and this is one of the areas where there are still endangered mahogany trees in abundance. The last traverse goes to a ground platform at the edge of the valley. The more adventurous person can try a 21 meter rappel down to the edge of the stream instead of the final traverse.
